Afterlife by Claudia Gray Review

Afterlife (Evernight, #4)Afterlife by Claudia Gray

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

**Spoilers for the previous books. Spoiler free for this one**

Afterlife is the final book in the Evernight series by Claudia Gray.

In the previous book, Hourglass, we were left with Bianca dying and turning into a wraith and Lucas was brutally murdered turned into a vampire by Charity, Balthazar’s psycho vampire sister. Poor Bianca and Lucas just can’t catch a break. They seem to have triple the amount of problems that fellow starcrossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet, had. Even though Bianca is a wraith, she has special abilities that set her apart from the rest of her kind, allowing her to interact with everything in the world like she could when she was alive. She battles with herself over if she should kill Lucas before he wakes up in his new vampire body. But when she can’t do it, whether it be out of weakness, selfishness or just undying love, he wakes and still finds himself as in love with Bianca as he was when he was human. Seeing through the eyes of the monster that Lucas has been taught to hate and kill his whole life changes his view on everything. He struggles immensely with his bloodlust and the urge to drink dry anyone with a beating heart. Afterlife is all about Bianca and Lucas coping with their afterlives and the adjustments to keep their undying love going, even when it seems all forces in the universe are out to kill them or rip them apart by any means.

Afterlife was a good closing book for the Evernight series. It wasn’t highly exciting, but it stays true to the usual flow and atmosphere of the rest of the series. We get more insight into all the supporting characters and, with a throw back to the previous books, some good bonding happens between our lovable group of misfits, making the final book stronger and more memorable. I really liked this series. It had a great starcrossed lover style that takes the series to the next step with lots of paranormal goodies. Some final twists were added, ends were neatly tied and I found myself satisfied with how it all turned out and hopefully you will be also
